FAQs

What comes with each purchase?

1

Each item includes a .dctle file(s), a license, and a manual that provides a full breakdown of all available tools, plus a step-by-step installation guide.

What is the difference between colour grading and look development?

2

Colour grading typically focuses on individual shots, allowing for precise adjustments tailored to each frame. In contrast, look development is about crafting a consistent aesthetic that can be applied across an entire project. As a result, look development tools are designed to leave the core exposure and balance largely untouched as well as prioritising smoothness.

What can these tools do that native resolve tools can't?

3

These tools offer smoother, more intuitive control than Resolve's native options, which can lead to undesirable results if not used carefully. I designed them to allow easy manipulation without breaking the image, while ensuring key aspects remain anchored, giving you confidence to modify the parts you want to change.

Have these tools been used to grade your own work?

4

Some of the work on my website predates the creation of these tools. However, any projects from early 2025 onward have used these tools, as they now form the core of my grading pipeline.

Can I use DCTLs on the free version of DaVinci Resolve?

5

As of DaVinci Resolve 20.1, DCTLs are only supported in the Studio version of Resolve. If you're using the free version, these tools won't function.
